IPL 2010 Final Preview

April 24, 2010

Chennai Superkings V Mumbai Indians

The most consistent team over the 3 seasons versus the most dramatic turnaround. Chennai have had to rely on spectacular individual performances to make it this far. The fact that they have made it inspite of Hayden’s indifferent form is a plus. However they are up against one of the most versatile attacks this year. Their bowling has been their saving grace this year but the experiment with Ashwin opening the bowling could go both ways in the final.

The games where Sachin got out early were the times Mumbai could have looked vulnerable. Tiwari and Rayadu however have shouldered a lot of the run-making to ensure there haven’t been many collapses. Having scored over 180 when Sachin was dismissed in the 2nd over means that Mumbai will be the more aggressive team believing they can win from any situation. Their attack has been the most reliable this season. Some pace, spin and the medium-pace relying on changes of pace means they can bowl on any surface.

For Chennai to win: Need a strong opening to the game, the opening batting partnership to flourish and to then strangle Mumbai with their slow-bowling. Need to get atleast 3 Mumbai wickets by the 10th over to put pressure on Bravo, Pollard and the rest of the lower order. Their best chance is to win the toss and bat.

For Mumbai to win: Looks like a lot would have to go wrong for them to come 2nd. A fit Sachin and an unbeaten opening partnership lasting 6 overs will go a long way to ensuring victory.
