Getting punched in the nuts

May 15, 2010

You know how it is when watching one of those shows titled “World’s wankiest bloopers” or similar. Where people send in video evidence of their attempts at getting eliminated from the gene pool. The skateboarder coming down the metal railing of the staircase to be met with an immovable object. Or a father and toddler dancing to some music before the son punches the father in the nuts without warning. Yeah, those videos. The ones that make you laugh and cringe at the same time. That’s how it was for all non-Pakistani fans in yesterday’s T20 Semi-Final.

For Pakistani fans, it must’ve been like the dude that’s having a good time and gets punched in the nuts by his 4 year old. Painful.

No way. Watching Pakistan lose was worse than that. It was like if some of your best(est) friends since childhood decide to go skydiving.
    .
You’re in the plane watching and video taping so their grandkids can witness the moment someday. It’s absolutely glorious as they float above the clouds, holding hands, in perfect formation, manuevering their bodies into an arch position to float in the sky. They’re trained, equipped, prepared. Classical music is playing in the background. You feel relaxed and glad that they didn’t forget to strap on their parachutes, like in all the Looney Tunes cartoons. Everything is going smoothly. They will do this and you will meet them back on the ground, laughing and whooping. It’s a high like no other as you anticipate that moment, and share in their thrill.
    .
But wait–stop–what is your friend pulling out of his backpack? Oh, it’s the parachute he strapped on, right? Wrong. He’s pulled out a gun. He turns to you, smiling maniacally, wild-eyed. “I don’t know why I’m doing this, but I’m doing it anywayyyyy” he yells before he shoots himself. His body goes limp, his eyes roll back, and he drops…down from the dizzying height. The rest of them follow suit as you watch slack-jawed, open-mouthed. Their bodies begin falling one by one, and you can do nothing. Nothing at all.

    THAT’S what it was like.

P.S. I know that was uncalled for but I need to vent 😦 I’ve never been so sad all year…

damn. that WAS painful! i can imagine the heartbreak, especially after the complete domination over the entire game barring the last couple of overs. makes you wonder if its better when they collapse right at the start.
